Overall response from participants attending the pilot rated “Prime Time – Leadership Training” at a 9.3 on a scale from 1 –
10, 10 being high.
The training achieved the following objectives:
- promoted the integration of staff and organizational goals by learning to identify the employee competencies that are
needed to develop as Health Canada proceeds to modernize services for the people of Saskatchewan and Canada;
- provided information on how to match employees and competencies as new initiatives come along;
- learned a performance management system to assist in the achievement of provincial and district priorities and
delivering on business plans;
- learned the skills and attitudes needed to ensure that employees have an opportunity to direct the course of their own
career paths within Health Canada;
- learned how to identify and address early training and other work related problems to ensure staff are better qualified
and therefore, of more value to the organization.
General Comments:
- Denise facilitated the Group’s wealth of knowledge and work experiences in a meaningful and exciting way. This is one
of the better training experiences I have participated in. Having managers discussing implementing new processes with
staff was very informative.
- Very good feedback from everyone, make it easy to participate. I learned a lot in this training - effective tools to take
back to the office. I will ensure to discipline myself to assist in implementing Prime Time. Thank you.
- Was not able to participate in all activities. When I did I was involved and positive regarding the learning. Co-
participants were engaged and excited about learning new ideas. What I took part in, I found to be supportive and what I
believe in, coupled with tools and documents to further my efforts. Thanks for sharing with us and energizing us for the
future. I recommend this for middle and senior manager. Positive and energizing!
- There was trust in the group so that we could be open. I found this training beneficial and must take the time to fully
implement when I get back. It is easy to fall into the job crises and not implement. Senior managers should take this course
and practise the positive/higher road mentality.
- I hate to say but it is really beneficial to “older” staff like myself, who subconsciously might be using methods from the
industrial revolution. I found the training very beneficial. It tied many of the previous trainings that I attended into a
system that can be used within and in support of the PDP and PLP but would make those activities more meaningful. The
binder is a wonderful resource. In a time of heavy workloads with little time for reading the latest professional journals the
trainer provided information on recent publications which will save my time. I have compiled a list of texts that I will be
reading in the next few months. Her approach is fresh and empowering. She showed a lot of respect for the group. We felt
“safe”. The system she presented would be even more effective if employees all understood and were on the same page.
- Participation was encouraged. The atmosphere was conducive for trust/openness. I have been looking for training like
this for a long time. Finally, a practical integrated approach that focuses on leading rather than managing, empowering
rather than limiting.
The information participants found most useable:
- T.I.M.E. process
- Soft skills review
- MAPE (Modelling, Aligning, Path finding, & Empowering)
- The enneagram – knowing people’s personality to find their best suited work.
- Choosing the high path. MAPE
- How to say “no”, RADR
- Reinforcing the treatment of employees and others in the workforce – people are our best resource.
- As an organization as a whole we must focus on the strengths of individuals and not the negative.
- Core Competencies
- T.I.M.E.
- RADR (Repeat, Agree, Disagree, and Resolve)
- AIDE (A Mattering Exercise)
- The Zone (Time Management)
- Choice: It allows a process by which I can encourage the positives and discourage the negative.
What I wish I would have received from the training:
- My expectation for the course was to learn and that is what I did.
- To participate in all modules (missed 1 day)
- N/A
- I had no expectations other than fresh ideas and tools and I received both.
- Learning process to improve employee evaluations.
- A better discussion around getting and keeping productive participants.
How my organization will benefit from my training experience:
- Learning a process that will be adopted in the workplace to improve the existing PDP/PLP
- Improving performance and overall morale of office by focusing on people’s strengths.
- Reminder to treat each other with respect and to develop processes for action.
- Give more praise as the staff do matter. Without them the organization will fail.
- I will be working with a paradigm shift towards PRIME TIME from my “old school” ways.
- A better encouraged leader, reassured that I am going in the right direction.
Content:
- This course should be supplied for all Health Canada managers in Saskatchewan.
- At first seemed scattered, but came together in the end.
- Exceeded expectations – materials could be organized for easily find references and flow with module.
- First day wasn’t as organized as I need for learning. It fell into place from the second day on.
- Wasn’t sure what to expect.
- I agree with most of the material. I would challenge the limits of the “Whole Person,” as I believe there could be much
more development on the model.
Instructor
- Denise is a great training facilitator. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience that she brings to the plate.
- Involved everyone, very knowledgeable, easy to understand.
- Instructor demonstrated high interest and knowledge on subject.
- Very passionate about topic.
- High –
- I found it challenging to follow Denise’s thought process at time because she does not follow the training manual in a
progressive way, but jumped around. Just not what I am used, is all.
Material and Visual Aids
- Very good reference materials
- Kept me interested.
- Good mix of examples and aids. Training manual will be useful as follow-up and to further research.
- There was additional information included in the manual that will be beneficial. There was some jumping around in
the manual. Could use a smaller manual for the critical path and this one as the resource library.
- Visual/Audio Aids were great. Manual could have been used more.
